Booking Through Thursday 16
Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme which asks a bookish question which you have to answer. This weeks question is:
And–the reverse of last week’s question. Name one book that you hope never, ever, ever gets made into a movie (no matter how good that movie might be).
Without a doubt anything in the horror genre. I can't specify one book but if it ends up as a horror movie I'm not watching it. I used to be able to watch horror movies when I was younger but I had a few bad experiences and now I just get too freaked out. I once watched The Hills Have Eyes late at night and ended up having to watch three hours of the shopping channel until the sun came up before I could go to sleep. And that movie Jeepers Creepers - scared the crap out of me, anytime I hear the song of the same name I have horrendous flashbacks. Scary books don't really bother me but movies - not good.
As for books so awesome it would ruin them if they were made into movies. I would have to go with any book written by Tamora Pierce. Her books, to me, are so perfect I can't even imagine them as movies. That said if anyone did make them into movies I would so be there - but I really hope they don't.
That's all for now.

I don't like to watch horror movies either. Or movies with a lot of violence, or forensic focus. When reading it's easier to just glance over those parts that one does not want to focus on ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't like horror movies and don't read horror stories so I don't know any books like this. The Hills Have Eyes is super creepy too! Haven't read anything by Tamora Pierce but I'm going to look her up! :)
ReplyDeleteI love horror movies, but I can completely understand about The Hills Have Eyes. One freaky movie.
ReplyDeleteAny horror after the 1960s is no good for me.
ReplyDeleteI love horror movies! But only the bloody slasher flick kind. And only because I find them more funny than scary. I can't do any movie where the events could more likely than not actually happen to me - The Strangers, anyone? Great BTT, and I couldn't agree with you more about the Tamora Pierce books!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the good ones! Now about the horror books...I don't really like them so I have no idea how it would work out.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for stopping at my blog! Did you check the small blogs, big giveaways post? Everyone's welcomed to join the project! =D
Have a great thursday!
I will gladly read a horror book even if it does mean I have to sleep with the light on. Like you I can't watch horror films. You can put your book in the freezer (friends) but you can't put the film in there. It was the decapatation scene in the original Omen that did it for me. Don't even get me started on zombies.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Tamora Pierce too. I would be worried they would make the femal leads needy.
I agree with everything you just said! I thought about putting anything gorey as my answer too!
ReplyDeleteTamora Pierce's books would be hard to do justice to as a movie.
I'm the opposite, I can watch horror and gore all night long, but I don't like reading about it. The Hills Have Eyes is just wrong, though. Just wrong.
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts. I took the prompt a whole different way, apparently.
ReplyDeleteI can't/won't do MOST horror films from the last 10-15 years--I don't mind true horror, but can't stand the "startle" effect (The Grudge) or extremely disturbingly-gruesome stuff (Saw series).
'bout the only horror I can do is Zombies--primarily The Walking Dead (comics or the AMC show) or Romero's ____ of the Dead series.
I suppose I'm a bit spoiled, too...15, 20 years ago I'd've been hesitant about a movie for Lord of the Rings, but by the time I got to the books, Fellowship of the Ring was just a few months away.
Also, consider me jealous that you've already seen Thor. I'm going tonight or tomorrow to see it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't like horror either, especially gore, so I agree.
ReplyDeleteOmigosh, I completely agree with you about horror movies!! I cannot read scary books or watch scary movies, I just get too freaked out. I watched a few scary movies in college and I swear I still have nightmares about them haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog...hope to see ya again soon! :)
I'm with you! I absolutely hate horror movies. They're just not for me. When I was a movie, I like to be entertained, not scared.
