Booking Through Thursday 21

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme which asks a bookish question which you have to answer. This weeks question is:

All things being equal (money, space, etc), would you rather own copies of the books you read? Or borrow them?

At the moment I buy all of my books. I used to go to the library every week when I was younger and I very rarely bought books only received them as gifts. But as soon as I got a job and had the money I bought as many as I could. I recently got a new library card and started borrowing books again but because I work six days a week and never know what day I am going to get off I just never have the time to go. As soon as work calms down and I pass my driving test I fully intend to use the library more often. I've always seen it as a good thing that I own my books because I love to re-read. Entire books or favourite passages there is nothing better than reading those familiar lines.

That's all for now.

  1. I am all for selective hoarding. I already own more than 2500 books!

  3. My favorite book quote is: "When I get a little money I buy books; and any if any is left, I buy food and clothes." Erasmus

I definitely prefer owning my books. But, I do love my local library.

  4. I like owning for the same reason. I've started using the library more, esp since I put myself on a book buying ban in May, but generally I hate it when I get old library books that are dirty.

  6. One of my dearest loves is the library...but book stores are a delight, too! I think if I had just a leeetle bit more money I would frequent them more often. It's nice to "meet" a fellow re-reader.

  8. I don't know where I'd be without my local library. I've been introduced to so many authors, my personal collection has grown.

By the way thank you for visiting my blog. New follower.

  10. Yes, I have a problem reading the library books before they're due...probably because of my TBR stacks.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  11. I love books too but there's no way I could buy all the ones I'd like to read so I have to make priorities and only collect favourites ;)

  12. I love buying books! I used to be a total re-reader but I find I haven't had much time lately! There are simply too many books that I want to read and haven't had the opportunity to yet. But, that's just another argument for buying because I don't like waiting on library books and then dealing with the time constraints!

  13. I like "owning" books as being I always want to read a "new book". However, I won't pass up borrowing a book if a friend has one that I really want to read.

  15. I also reread often! In fact, I probably do it a bit too much...it's just so nice to visit old friends :)

  16. I also like to own books and when I borrow them I have trouble returning them on time.

  17. I'm all about the library...but I do understand it can be difficult to get by without transportation. I try to only visit on certain days of the week so I'll keep the books due on a regular cycle.

Yes, it's crazy and odd...but oh well.

  18. I never re-read books - I just don't have time but I still rather own my own books if I didn't have to worry about money or space.

  19. Like with your, the library was a lifesaver when I was younger (and more penniless than I am now!), that's why I feel sad when I hear about how libraries have to close due to lack of funding - how about all those new younger readers coming up if they never get to enjoy what we did?

  20. The library here is horrible so I rarely borrow books from it. If I'm not sure if a book is a good read or not, I usually read it in the bookstore. :)

  21. I like to do both. Some I have to own, the rest I can borrow.

  22. I still go to the library about once a week!

  23. I read library books almost exclusively, and I am also a big re-reader. If I want to read it again, I check it out again. :-) I even get cookbooks from the library.
